What is the Balkan Window?

The Balkan Window is a prayer initiative with the aim of mobilizing God’s people to pray for the Balkans. The word “window” describes the geographical region – a window – in focus for our intercession, similar to the 10/40 window that was established with the purpose of praying for the most unreached people groups in the world. With the Balkan Window we wish to focus the attention on the Balkans.

Why do the Balkans need our prayers in a special way?

Several of the countries in the Balkans can be described as the most unreached nations in Europe as well as globally. Even though the Balkans were the gate for the Gospel to reach Europe for the first time (Acts 16), there are so many people here who have never heard the good news of salvation and reconciliation – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Balkans is a mixing bowl of different people groups and religious beliefs and expressions. Several historic Christian churches, as well as Muslim groups, are represented here. As a result of recurrent wars and bloodshed, the region is strongly characterized by discouragement, division, unforgiveness, tension and conflict.

The Gospel – Jesus – is the Balkans’ only hope. That is why we want to pray that the Kingdom of God once again would break forth in this region.
